Our cats are extremely important members of the team! They are split into the old guard (originally just house pets) to our wild child mountain kittens. 

 

Mr. Darcy isn’t really a mouser anymore on account of his advanced age (as of 2023, 15 years). Darcy is an Arabian Mau, fancy words for a Middle Eastern street cat. He was born in Petra, Jordan and ran the show at an International boarding school before came to the US in 2014. There’s nothing like a warm patch of grass and sunshine for him. He loves to yowl for seemingly no reason but can often be found snuggling his his daddy’s lap. All the young animals deeply wish for Darcy’s approval and must work extremely hard before they receive it. 

 

Lord Robert Kentington of the Spare Room, also known as Bubs, was found living under some  blackberry bushes in Washington state. As a stray, food was always priority number one and it took years before he believed that meals were guaranteed. Most notably, his humans had to get a locking trash can to prevent dumpster diving and one time when they forgot a thawing ham on the counter, Robert helped himself to over 4 pounds of ham in one sitting. Robert is our indoor mouser and catches anything that gets past the outdoor boys. He very considerately leaves all dead mice in the water bowl for us to find. Both Darcy and Robert are allowed outside during the day in a fenced area when the weather is nice.

 

After being besieged by mice in the garage and chicken coop, the decision was made to bring on two more outdoor mousers. Brothers Fred and George were acquired from a home further up the mountain and made short work of taming the rodent hordes. Fred is King of the Wildlands and will often follow the dogs and people on perimeter walks, ensuring that all is up to snuff. George is a big snuggler and loves to sit on someone’s shoulders during walks. The life of an outdoor cat is often short, but very sweet and we hope our training and dog protection allows both Fred and George to live long, fruitful lives.
