Get to Know Us

Welcome to our small farmstead nestled in the Rocky Mountain foothills, at the headwaters of Coal Creek. We had been seeking a way out of the rat race for several years and finally found this piece of riparian land with shimmering green grass and dotted with beautiful butterscotch Ponderosa trees. Wildlife frequently visits, taking advantage of the water, shade, and spring flowers. The strong sense of community we found cemented our desire to try and provide local, naturally raised food for yourself and for others. Despite the challenges that come with living in the mountains, we are determined to return to a simpler way of life reminiscent of the past.

Our farmstead has a rich history that we are proud to be a part of. We are only the fifth family to care for this land since it was originally deeded by President Harrison to Charles “Garrie” Anderson in 1873. The area is home to some original structures that date back to the early 1900s, including a bunkhouse, outhouse, barn, and carriage house ruins, which were used as a stagecoach stop along the Ramboz Wagon Road, now known as Highway 72. Henry Zeller, along with his brothers Fred and George, purchased some of Anderson’s land to use as a timbermill and also built a root cellar. They donated three acres of land to the Coal Creek Canyon Improvement Association to build a community hall and the Crescent Village Store, both of which we directly benefit from many years later.

Over the years, the farmstead has been cared for by different families who have each added their unique touches. The Strohmeyer family were avid gardeners, while the Klein family brought their love of horses and cars to the community. Now, we are honored to be the stewards of this farmstead, and we are committed to continuing the tradition of caring for this land with the same love and dedication it has received for over 200 years.
